“The Institute of T.B and Chest Medicine is the oldest institute of Pulmonary diseases in the country.  Prof. Muhammad Saqib Saeed is heading the Institute since 2011. The Institute was established in 1920. The Institution underwent major renovation works in 2012 at the cost of rupees 13 million through philanthropy. A new diagnostic block has been established with X-Ray room, ultrasound room, bronchoscopy suite, sleep lab, clinical lab and a record room. A 50 seated Seminar room fully equipped with audiovisual facilities has been built. The state of the art Gene XPERT MTB/RIF machine has been installed which can pick up MDRTB in under 2 hours. A fluorescent microscope has been made available through NTP making identification of AFB easier. New sections, with full disinfection facilities, have been established in the male and female TB wards for MDRTB patients in collaboration with NTP. All the second line drugs, social support and diagnostic facilities are provided free of cost to these patients. The Institute of chest medicine houses 66 patients and runs a very active outpatient department catering for over 60,000 patients a year. The institute is running postgraduate training programs for MD (Pulmonology), FCPS (Medicine), FCPS and MCPS in Pulmonology, DTCD and undergraduate training for MBBS.”
