INTRODUCTION OF DEPARTMENT

The Department of Community Medicine at King Edward Medical University is a leading institution in the field of public health education, research, and health-care practice. Established in 1950, the Department has been dedicated to promoting community health, preventing disease, and improving the quality of life for individuals and populations.
The Department offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Community and Preventive Medicine and Public Health, including Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Fellowship of College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) and Master of Public Health (MPH) degrees. The programs are designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to address the complex health challenges facing communities in Pakistan and beyond.
In addition to its academic programs, the Department is actively engaged in research, advocacy, and community service. The faculty members conduct cutting-edge research in a wide range of public health areas, including infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, environmental health, and health policy. The Department also collaborates with Government Agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations, and International Partners to develop and implement evidence-based interventions to improve health outcomes.
The Department of Community Medicine at King Edward Medical University is committed to training the next generation of public health leaders and advancing the field of community and preventive medicine through education, research, and service.

OBJECTIVES AND GOALS

Education: To provide high-quality education and training in Community and Preventive Medicine to undergraduate and postgraduate students, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to address the complex health challenges facing communities in Pakistan and beyond.

Research: To conduct cutting-edge research, generating new knowledge and evidence to inform policy and practice and improve health outcomes for individuals and populations.

Advocacy: To advocate for policies and interventions that promote community health, prevent disease, and improve the quality of life for individuals and populations, especially the most vulnerable and marginalized groups.

Service: To engage in community service activities, working in collaboration with Government Agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations, and International Partners to develop and implement evidence-based interventions to improve health outcomes and reduce health disparities.

Capacity Building: To build the capacity of public health professionals and practitioners, promoting the development of a skilled and knowledgeable workforce to address the health needs of communities in Pakistan and around the world.

PROJECTS / DEPARTMENTAL EXTENSION /SPECIAL FEATURES

1. Demographic and lifestyle risk factors of dysglycaemia in HCV positive patients in community.
2. Critical Appraisal of Telemedicine in Rural Community Health Centres.

All the faculty members are actively involved in Public Health Consultation including technical consultation of Health Management and Information System, Safe water & Health, Environmental Health Strategy Punjab by World Health Organization (WHO), Ebola Virus Disease, and Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI).
