INTRODUCTION OF DEPARTMENT

King Edward Medical University houses the country’s premier Pediatric Department. It was established in a small room in Outpatient Department of Mayo Hospital Lahore in 1948 by Late Professor SMK Wasti. Before 2004, this was single Pediatric Unit. The Pediatric Medicine Unit-II was established in November 2004 to provide better health care to increasing number of patients and to improve the teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates. This Department is currently headed by Prof. Iftikhar Ijaz. Under her leadership PMW Unit-II Is ready to set a new trajectory of excellence and a novel precedent of success. With the great efforts of Worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal and Prof Iftikhar Ijaz Nephrology Unit, Hemodialysis Unit and Pediatric Oncology Unit Is fully established. Unit-II is providing evidence based and up to date learning to its undergraduates and postgraduates residents.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
  • To provide Quality education, disciplined and practical training to undergraduates and post-graduates.
  • To improve health care services and develop better communication and counselling skills among undergraduates and postgraduates.
  • Contemporary research in field of pediatrics.
  • Evidence based preventive and curative services.
  • To develop an understanding and commitment to professionalism and ethics in both Medical practice and research.
