King Edward Medical University hosted an awareness seminar focused on ‘Osteoporosis,’ with the event being organized by Prof. Faisal Masood, head of the Department of Orthopaedics Unit-II in collaboration with Dr. Somia Iqtadar, Dept. of Medicine and the Dept. of Physiotherapy under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ayyaz Patron in Chief.
Prof. Dr. Javed Akram, the esteemed provincial health minister, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Prof. Dr. Abdul Majeed Chaudhry as the Guest of Honor.
Among the notable attendees were distinguished individuals such as Prof. Syed Asghar Naqi, Prof. Muhammad Moin, Prof. Zahra Ishrat, Prof. Muhammad Sharif, Prof. Israr ul Haque Toor, Prof. Yar Muhammad, Prof. Sajjad Haider, Dr. Somia Iqtadar, Dr. Mumraiz Salik, Dr. Subhan Shahid, Dr. Fawad Randhawa, Dr. Uzma Malik, Dr. Nighat Ansar, Dr. Yasir Imran, Dr. Ghazala Butt, Dr. Mamoona Ghias, Dr. Mian Sajjad, Dr. Kashif Naseer, Dr. Suhail Niazi, as well as a substantial number of students.
During his address at the seminar, the caretaker provincial health minister, Prof. Javed Akram, expressed his admiration and appreciation for organizing an event of such significance. He emphasized the pivotal role of Calcium and Vitamin D in maintaining a healthy life and shared that during his tenure at King Edward Medical College, his team conducted and published groundbreaking research on Vitamin D.
Prof. Javed Akram underscored the importance of modern research in safeguarding the population against various dangerous diseases. He also paid tribute to his esteemed teacher, Prof. Abdul Majeed Chaudhry, while expressing pride in his hardworking student, Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz. He recounted fond memories associated with the alma mater and stressed the crucial role of healthy bones in leading a happy life. He advocated for the proper use of dairy products, the strengthening of bones, and the reduction of obesity as ways to prevent various diseases.
Prof. Javed Akram highlighted the significance of timely screening, diagnosis, and treatment in disease prevention and commended the efforts of Prof. Faisal Masood and Dr. Somia Iqtadar in organizing the event. He also called for further studies and research on bone health at King Edward Medical University.
Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz, the Vice Chancellor of King Edward Medical University, echoed the importance of a healthy diet and daily exercise in preventing Osteoporosis and maintaining healthy bones. He stressed the role of dairy products like cheese in promoting bone health and acknowledged the university’s ongoing teaching and training activities. Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz also praised the Department of Medicine and Orthopaedics for their efforts in arranging various workshops and seminars on crucial topics.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Majeed Chaudhry, addressing the seminar participants, expressed his appreciation for Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz, describing him as an excellent teacher who fulfills his original purpose. He also fondly reminisced about his three-decade-long association with this prestigious institution.
This seminar was a collaborative effort across various disciplines, with experts from the Departments of Medicine, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Orthopaedics and Physiotherapy in attendance. The caretaker Provincial Health Minister, Prof. Dr. Javed Akram, and the Vice Chancellor jointly presented commemorative shields to the faculty members and organizers in recognition of their contributions.
