INTRODUCTION OF DEPARTMENT

Mayo hospital was established in 1871. Eye and ENT department were created in the early 20th century. Eye department was separated from ENT department in 1948. Eye unit I was established in 1978 currently headed by Prof. Dr. Intzar Hussain and Prof. Dr. Sardar M. Ali Ayaz Sadiq Institute of ophthalmology was established in 1981. It has 45 beds and facilities involving orbit and oculoplastic surgery, glaucoma, vitreo-retina, squint, pediatric ophthalmology, Laser facilities, refraction, pathology lab and conference room for CME.

Eye unit I is providing health care to the patients in the form of all types of orbit and oculoplastic surgery, diagnostic department. Eye unit I also take keen interest in providing education to the undergraduate and Post graduate students.

OBJECTIVES AND GOALS
  • To serve the Pakistani community in prevention of eye injuries.
  • To manage the orbital disorders
  • To groom the faculty members and trainee staff to improve their skills in continued learning and instruction

RESEARCH

ON GOING PROJECTS

  • Macular thickness in uni-lateral amblyopic population by spectral domain OCT.
  • Mean macular thickness in myopic patients.
  • Management of refectory amblyopia with patching alone versus patching with levodopa.
  • Comparison of ocular trauma score and penetrating ocular trauma score in predicting visual outcome in children.

  • Performing all kinds of orbit and oculoplastic surgeries, only center in Lahore.
  • We are providing diagnostic and therapeutic facilities to treat ailing humanity.
  • Diagnostic facilities include FFA, OCT, HRT, ERG, Specular biomicroscopy, A-scan/B scan ultrasonography, Visual Field examination and orthoptic assessment.
  • Surgical and Medical Management of general ophthalmology diseases, glaucoma, vitreo-retina, squint, pediatric ophthalmology.
  • Laser facilities, refraction, pathology lab.
  • Providing consultation to the sister departments of the hospital.
