Punjab Telemedicine – Center of Excellence
The King Edward Medical University established the Punjab Telemedicine Centre of Excellence during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 to provide remote healthcare services and reduce hospital burden through online consultations and digital triage. The center connected patients with specialist doctors across multiple disciplines and later evolved into a permanent telemedicine department because of its large-scale impact and nationwide outreach. The service is still actively working and provides free medical consultation to patients through a simple phone call. In addition, a dataset containing records of more than 27,000 telemedicine patients is available for academic and research purposes.
KEMU Biobank for Clinical and Translational Research
The KEMU Biobank has been established as a modern research facility to support biomedical and clinical research through the systematic collection, processing, and preservation of biological samples along with associated clinical data. The biobank is designed to facilitate translational research, precision medicine, and evidence-based healthcare initiatives in Pakistan. Currently, more than 2,431 biological samples are available for clinical trials and research purposes, providing a valuable resource for national and collaborative scientific studies.
Punjab Thalassemia Prevention Programme
The Punjab Thalassemia Prevention Programme (PTPP), launched in 2009–10, is a government led initiative to reduce the burden of beta thalassemia and other genetic disorders in Punjab through free carrier screening, pre marital testing, and prenatal diagnosis across all 36 districts. It provides awareness campaigns, genetic counselling, and training for healthcare workers. The program also uses an integrated digital system to track screening, counselling, and diagnostic records to support population level prevention.
Tuberculosis Indicators – Punjab, Pakistan
The Tuberculosis Indicators dataset compiles comprehensive WHO Global Health Observatory (GHO) metrics on tuberculosis (TB) in Pakistan (PAK), with a focus relevant to Punjab province surveillance. Spanning 1990–2021, it tracks 713 records across indicators like new/relapse cases, case-detection rates, treatment success rates, MDR/RR-TB prevalence, HIV co-infection, and diagnostic lab capacity. Key trends show notified cases rising from ~15k in the 1990s to over 316k by 2014, alongside improving treatment success (70–94%) and growing MDR-TB challenges. This data supports epidemiological analysis, policy evaluation, and research into TB control in high-burden regions like Punjab.
