Workshop on Knee & Hip Joint Replacement was Organized by Department of Orthopaedics, KEMU

A workshop on Knee & Hip Joint Replacement was organized by the Department of Orthopaedics Unit-II, King Edward Medical University.
The Chief Guest for the event was Provincial Health Minister Prof. Dr. Javed Akram.
On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz, while giving a welcome address, thanked the Health minister for gracing the occasion and briefed him about the ongoing educational activities in the institution.
The workshop faculty included Prof. Shahid Noor, Prof. Tahseen Riaz, Prof. Rana Dil Awaiz Nadeem, Dr. Irfan-ul-Haq, Prof. Amin Chinoy, Dr. Tanveer Sadiq, Prof. Arif Khan, Dr. Israr Ahmed, Dr. Nasir Ahmed, Prof. Rana Arshad, Prof. Wasif Ali Shah, Dr. Suhail Niazi, and Dr. Mumraiz Salik.
The objective of the workshop was to discuss and train the participants in the latest treatment options for knee & hip joint replacements for various disorders. The participants included consultants and postgraduate trainees who were given hands-on training.
The Provincial Health Minister Dr. Javed Akram expressed his views and congratulated the Vice Chancellor and his team for organizing the workshop on such an important topic. He was of the view that Robotic surgery has gained importance internationally and this is a time to introduce it in Pakistan. He shared his experience while working abroad and reiterated the need for proper sterilization and upgradation of Orthopaedic services in the province.
During his short tenure, the facility of Primary Angioplasty has been started 24/7 in the Cardiology departments across the province.
On the occasion, MOU was signed between the British Pakistani Orthopaedic Society, Pakistan Orthopaedic Association & Pakistan Arthroplasty Society. Prof. Javed Akram assured that the Government is committed to providing the best health services to the public and that various projects regarding Orthopaedics & Trauma will be given priority.
The Vice Chancellor of King Edward Medical University, Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ayyaz, expressed his gratitude to Prof. Javed Akram for sparing his precious time for the academic event. He told the audience that various educational programs will be started soon at King Edward Medical University including Robotic skills.
The Course Director, Prof. Faisal Masood, gave a vote of thanks and told that this workshop will continue for two days, in which experts from the orthopedic departments from all over the country and abroad will train the participants in skills & latest treatment methods. It will help the patients coming to Mayo Hospital with better management.
This was the 5th of the unique workshops conducted by Vice-Chancellor Professor Mahmood Ayyaz and his faculty in surgery and orthopedics where didactic lectures, interactive discussions, skills stations, and cadaveric dissections were done. This is part of the endeavor of the university to promote the understanding of anatomy and its insightful application in the surgical training of residents, post-graduates, and young surgeons. The faculty is usually National and international and the participants are from all over Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Afghanistan.
The event concluded with the distribution of shields and a group photograph of participants with the faculty and chief guest at the end.
