Pre conference Workshop on Autism & Related Nneurodevelopmental disorders in Pediatric & Child Psychiatry Practice By Department of Child & Family Psychiatry in Collaboration with Department of Paediatrics Unit I.

In the context of the 43th KEMCAANA Annual Conference in king Edward Medical University, with VC KEMU Prof Mahmood Ayyaz as Patron in chief, a pre-conference workshop titled ” Autism and related Neurodevelopmental disorders in paediatric and child Psychiatry practices” was organized by the Department of Child and Family Psychiatry in collaboration with Department of Paediatrics Unit-1 of King Edward Medical University/ Mayo Hospital, Lahore.

The workshop started with recitation of Holy Quran followed by the introduction of Facilitators. Prof Nazish Imran welcomed the participants and mentioned the learning objectives of the workshop.

Participants were assistant professors, senior registrars, postgraduate graduate residents and internees of psychology and speech therapy from the paediatric and psychiatric departments. Prof Ali M Hashmi appreciated the academic endeavours and regular activities in child psychiatry and his continuous support. Prof M Haroon Hamid CEO Mayo Hospital and Chairman Paediatrics Unit 1 highlighted the importance of interface between paediatric medicine and child Psychiatry and gave talk on medical aspects of care of children with NDD.

An overview of neurodevelopmental disorders was given by Dr Imran sharif followed by excellent role play, how to assess a child with Autism spectrum disorder, by Prof Nazish Imran, Dr Naveera and a trainee psychologist. Miss Mariyam Nawazish clinical Psychologist and Arshad Awan speech therapist explained the role of MDT in assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders.
