Principal COVAS/KEMU, Conducted a Seminar on the Subject of Myopia known as Nearsightedness

Professor Dr. Muhammad Moin, Principal College of Ophthalmology & Allied Vision Sciences, King Edward Medical University, conducted a seminar on the subject of Myopia, also known as nearsightedness.
On this occasion, experts said that there will be an extraordinary increase in Myopia by 2050. It must be necessary to assess the children’s vision at the age of 6 to 12 with the passage of time months, 3 years, and at the time of school entry. Eyeglasses are a means of treating children’s vision, encourage children to use glasses regularly. Parents should motivate Children to spend at least two hours daily in the open air and sunlight to prevent the progression of eyeglasses prescriptions. Teachers also should promote activities where children spend time outside the classroom. Reduce the use of screens and mobile phones to protect children’s eyes from harmful radiation and to prevent the increase in eyeglasses prescriptions.
Professor Khalid Masood Gondal, President College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan and Vice Chancellor FJMU was the Chief Guest at the event.
Expressing his views, he thanked Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz, Prof. Muhammad Moin and his team with whose concerted efforts the event was a success. He said that today’s seminar is not only vital for under training doctors but also important and beneficial for common people. Parents must feel it their duty to keep children away from the usage of mobile phones and screens and frequently consult a qualified Ophthalmologist for any kind of eye complication, arises.
Professor Mahmood Ayyaz, Vice-Chancellor, King Edward Medical University, Professor Emeritus (COAVS) Prof. Dr. Asad Aslam Khan, Principal Nishtar Medical College Professor Rashid Qamar Rao, Chief Executive Mayo Hospital Professor Dr. M Haroon Hamid, Dean Faculty of Allied Health Sciences Professor Dr. Syed Asghar Naqi, Medical Superintendent Mayo Hospital Dr. Munir Ahmed Malik, also emphasized on timely diagnosis and treatment.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Mahmood Ayyaz appreciated Professor Muhammad Moin’s efforts in organizing academic and research activities in the field of Ophthalmology. He said Today’s seminar is also a part of this series. He further stated that parents should discourage children from using mobile phones and encourage them towards physical activities, and they should keep getting their vision checked regularly. Following such way, we can significantly minimize the rate of myopia in our society.
This program had been receiving cooperation of CBM, whose Country Manager Dr. Zahid Awan briefed the PEEK Project while discussing Myopia control. He stated that they are committed to the treatment of blindness in collaboration with the CBM College of Ophthalmology for the early diagnosis of eye diseases.
