WORLD HYPERTENSION DAY 2023 by WMW “MEASURE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE ACCURATELY, CONTROL IT AND LIVE LONGER”
Department of west medicine organized a seminar on WORLD HYPERTENSION DAY on Thursday 8th June 2023, at audiovisual room, Patiala block KEMU under the patronage of Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz, Vice Chancellor, KEMU.
As Hypertension is the biggest contributor to global burden of disease and mortality accounting for 1.13 billion adults with hypertension worldwide, so this activity was aimed to raise awareness about this “Silent Killer “and highlight the various aspects of hypertension, urgency in its treatment and advancements in research and anti-hypertensive medications.
The session was formally inaugurated with the recitation of Holy Quran. Dr Hina Latif, Assistant Professor, moderated the activity and gave a brief introduction about the seminar and welcomed the distinguished guests and the esteemed senior faculty members. Prof. Adil Iqbal, head of department of west medical ward and Chairperson for this activity, greeted the audience with a warm welcome note and highlighted the keenness of the academic activities of WMW.
Prof. ADIL IQBAL, DR. RABIA RATHORE, DR. NASIR FAROOQ BUTT, DR HINA LATIF, DR.AZHAR SALEEM & DR. GHULAM SARWAR facilitated the seminar.
The program comprised of two sections: interdepartmental quiz competition and a formal talk on “Harnessing Hypertension” by an eminent speaker Prof. Aziz-Ur-Rehman.
Interdepartmental quiz on Hypertension was a sensational activity equally enjoyed by senior and junior colleagues. Dr. Hassan Mahmood, Dr. Mariam Azeem , Dr. Madiha Abbas along with dr. Anum Bangash were the jury . Teams from all four medical departments took part in the contest. There were three rounds in the quiz: testing time with team, Head to head individual round and a last buzzer round. Contestants of team west medical ward won the quiz with a major lead. South medical ward team secured second position and North medical ward team secured 3rd position. This was followed by few questions from the audience with prizes too in which senior n junior colleagues won the prize.
This was followed by a state of the art talk on “Harnessing Hypertension” by Prof. Aziz-Ur-Rehman, teacher of the teachers, best graduate of his time, serving as professor of Medicine at Rashid Latif Medical College these days. He is Senior Vice president Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine. Teaching is his Passion and he delivered his talk in an excellent way by highlighting the basics of hypertension, its treatment guidelines and life style modification with a strong take home message. This was followed by a healthy discussion and Question & Answer session well conducted by Dr. Nasir Farooq Butt.
The Chief Guest, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz, highlighted the importance of management of Hypertension in a wise manner. He also shared his experience and paid an affectionate tribute to the Speaker as his best teacher. He appreciated the activity content and congratulated Prof. Adil Iqbal and the west medical ward team for conducting a seminar on such a much-needed issue.
The session was graced by senior faculty members of KEMU including Chairman Department of Medicine PROF MUHAMMAD IMRAN Head of Department East Medical Ward,Dr. Shandana Tarique HOD SMW, Dr Israr ul Haque Toor HOD North Medical Ward, Prof Dr Saira Afzal HOD community medicine , Dr. Somia Iqtadar Associate prof, Dr. Fawad Ahmed Randhawa Associate prof , Dr. Uzma Malik Associate prof , Dr. Yasir Assistant Professor , Dr. Rabia Assistant Professor , with all other respective faculty of department of medicine. They shared their thoughts and experience about HYPERTENSION MANAGEMENT and appreciated the speaker. The active participation of senior faculty from different medical specialties was highly appreciable.
The ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr.Rabia Rathore who extended her deepest thanks to worthy guests, chief guests, and the organizing committee followed by a prize distribution ceremony for the quiz winners. Souvenirs were presented to chief guest, guests of honor, speakers, and organizers at the end of the activity. More than 80 participants registered and participated in the workshop and found it very helpful. Refreshment was served at the end of the activity.
