A Pre- Conference Workshop in the context of 43rd Annual International Scientific conference was organized in Patiala Block on 13th December 2023 by Academic Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences and Department of Child and Family Psychiatry in collaboration with Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics Unit 5 Lady Aitchison Hospital, KEMU, Lahore.
The workshop was titled ‘The hand that rocks the cradle: Perinatal Mental Health ‘ Prof. Dr. Nadia Khurshid, Head of Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Lady Aitchison Hospital, Prof. Dr. Ali Madeeh Hashmi, HOD Academic Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences, Prof. Dr. Nazish Imran, HOD Child and Family Psychiatry, and Dr. Irum Aamer AP, Psychiatry department, KEMU were the facilitators for the workshop.
Workshop started with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by the introduction of facilitators Prof. Dr. Ali Madeeh Hashmi warmly welcomed all the guests and participants and introduced the objectives of the workshop. Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ayyaz talked very comprehensively about the importance of perinatal mental health and the consequent impact on child development.
Participants include professors, assistant professors, senior registrars, post graduate residents, house officers and allied health sciences students and psychology internees. Dr. Irum Aamer discussed the prevalence and common mental health issues . Prof Dr.Nadia Khurshid highlighted the importance of interface between psychiatry and gynaecology related to perinatal issues.
Prof. Dr. Nazish Imran discussed about Perinatal Mental Health and Impact on children. Prof. Dr. Ali Hashmi discussed in detail about different screening tools used for perinatal mental health Prof. Dr. Irfan Malik ( President KEMCAANA), Prof. Dr. Saira Afzal, Prof. Dr. Shehzad Shams also joined the event as special guests.
Interactive group activities were designed for this workshop and different case scenarios were discussed. Panel discussion was joined by Prof. Dr. Shamsa Humayun a renowned gynecologist and senior VP of Medical Women’s Association of Pakistan. Workshop was concluded with the distribution of certificates.
