Punjab’s 1st Neurosurgery department was established in 1966, equipped with best-skilled neurosurgeons and latest state of the art equipment for best service delivery. Providing the best post-graduate training to residents of Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan, and other parts of the world. Led by Prof. Azam Niaz, a very humble and polished neurosurgeon. Doing the latest functional, epilepsy, brain tumors, spine tumors, trauma surgeries, endoscopic brain and spine surgeries, minimally invasive brain and spine surgeries, our trained students are serving across the world.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Pakistan’s premier neurosurgery department is always determined to arrange International standard conferences, seminars, symposiums and hands-on workshops on all relevant brain and spine-related issues. International faculty is invited for knowledge transfer and upgradation of skills of national faculty. The undergraduate training of King Edward Medical College students is one of the important components of educational activity.

PROJECTS / DEPARTMENTAL EXTENSION /SPECIAL FEATURES
The Department is equipped with state of the art latest equipment. Department of Neurosurgery KEMU/MHL is the referral center for Functional Neurosurgery Cases (Deep Brain Stimulation, Neuromodulation, Vagus Nerve Stimulation). Endoscopic brain and spine surgeries is a hall mark of the department. Minimally invasive brain and spine surgeries are special features of the department.

Clinical Services:
The Department of Neurosurgery of King Edward Medical University/Mayo Hospital Lahore consists of 70 bedded Neurosurgery ward, 8 bedded Neurosurgery ICU, and 4 fully equipped elective operation theaters (in Albert Victor Hospital) and a dedicated emergency operation theater (which is functional 24/7). For serious patients, we have beds reserved in Emergency ICU and main ICU. The bed occupancy is above 95%. Besides running regular outdoor and indoor service we are providing 24/7 neurosurgical emergency coverage supervised by a Consultant Neurosurgeon. Treatment is free for all poor and deserving patients. The department is dealing with all sorts of Pediatric and Adult Neurosurgical problems (related to brain and spine). Our Out Patient is carried out 3 times a week in Room Number 11 of OPD Block of Mayo Hospital Lahore. The OPD Days Are Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday.
The Elective List Days are Monday, Wednesday & Friday.

Operation Theater Suites:
For Elective Surgery, there are 3 operation theaters in Albert Victor Hospital. The Elective list is carried out 3 days a week. After completing the workup, a patient is admitted to the ward and operated within a week.
These operation theaters are equipped with State of The art Neurosurgical Equipment which include Zeiss Operating Microscopes (02), Karl Storz Endoscopy Tower, Inomed C2 Nerve Monitor (02), Endoscopic System for Brain & Spine surgery, Inomed RM Stereotactic Frame (for DBS & Stereotactic Brain Tumor Biopsy) and standard Neurosurgical Equipment.
For Emergency surgery, we have a dedicated Operation theater on the Ground floor of the Emergency, functional 24/7
