Vice Chancellor Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz hosted the event on behalf of Allama Iqbal Medical College, GCU Lahore, University of Lahore, Riphah University Lahore, University of South Asia Lahore, and all other institutions. The Vice Chancellor took Maj. Gen. Abdul Moeed to visit the university’s historic library hall and archive gallery, highlighting the institution’s 164 years of excellent medical services.
Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz highlighted the harms of drugs and their prevention. In his speech, he said that the word narcotics comes from the Greek word narcosis, meaning to make you numb and dumb. Today, drug use and drug addiction have become common worldwide and have emerged as a prominent disease among all psychiatric disorders.
According to an estimate, about a fifth of medical students, more men than women, use drugs. The psychological stress of the addicted person is the most important factor that leads to drug use. He further said that drugs are the mother of all evils, which gives rise to many evils. Neither our religion allows it nor the laws of our country allow drugs.
Expressing his views, Maj. Gen. Abdul Moeed said, “I am happy to be at King Edward Medical University. As MBBS students, you all know the harms of drugs very well. The real remedy for drugs will be possible by stopping its production, supply, and demand. Addiction badly affects human organs, mental and physical health. When one person in a family is affected, the entire family and society are affected.
He further said that all of you are the future of this country and nation; the drug industry is badly affecting our students, which we have to stop together. Convey our message to others and first of all protect yourself from the curse of addiction.
