INTRODUCTION OF DEPARTMENT
Cradled by Lahore city’s most recognized landmarks, the Badshahi Masjid, Lahore Fort, and Minar-e-Pakistan lies the biggest maternity facility of the country, Lady Willingdon Hospital, affiliated with King Edward Medical University.
The idea of maternity hospital came about in 1925 when students of final year M.B.B.S class went to Madras (Chennai) 3000km away. Although hospital started functioning with only 56 beds in October, 1930 but official opening ceremony was performed by First lady of 22nd Viceroy of India, Her Excellency the Countess of Willingdon on 11th march 1933.
The hospital boasts impressive performance figures and trends. It is the greatest place of learning, it’s wonderful staff and thousands of patients who passed through its gates during proceedings years. It has a no refusal policy and caters to the Lahore and adjoining districts. In calendar year, 2018, this hospital treated 74302 patients in OPD and 37823 in Indoor, 19498 minor & major surgeries 18742 deliveries were performed.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
- To train doctors in basic emergency obstetrical skills to enable them to improve maternal health and reduce maternal mortality rate
- To impart training in medical ethics so that trainees become humane and skillful doctors
- To impart all trainees level of training and competency which will enable them to meet international standards.
To impart training in gynaecological sub-specialties as
- Assisted reproduction
- Urogynaecology
- Gyanecological oncology
- Fetal medicine
