DEPARTMENT OF CARDIOLOGY

The Cardiology Department, Mayo Hospital, Lahore affiliated with King Edward Medical University is the oldest Department in this specialty in the country and was established in 1960 under Professor Aslam Elahi and Dr Rauf Yousaf. At that time the department was primitive and only clinical cardiology was being practiced. Currently all the modern cardiac facilities are available in the Department of Cardiology except Gamma Camera which is expected to be installed in near future. It has two CCU’s, Cardiology Department, ETT Department, Echocardiography, Cardiac Catheterization (Diagnostic and Interventional) and CME for education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Since its inception, the Cardiology Department, KEMU/Mayo Hospital, Lahore has trained a large number of Cardiologists who are serving in Pakistan and aborad. It was the second academic Department of Cardiology in the country (First was NICVD Karachi) to have invasive Cardiology setup.

To provide state of the art health care facility to the cardiac patient suffering from different cardiac diseases and provide ongoing teaching and training of young doctors, nurses and undergraduate and postgraduate students and carry out different research projects to generate our own data.
