King Edward Medical University (KEMU) organized a high-level academic session on the theme “Holistic Approach in Cardiometabolic Care”, aimed at uniting diverse specialties on a single platform to enhance comprehensive patient care.
The session was graced by Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ayyaz, Vice Chancellor KEMU, as Patron-in-Chief, while Prof. Dr. Haroon Hamid, CEO Mayo Hospital, attended as Patron, and Dr. Abdul Mudabbir, COO Mayo Hospital, joined as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Israr ul Haq, Chief Organizer, formally welcomed the distinguished guests and participants.
In his welcome address, Prof. Dr. Israr ul Haq highlighted that the management of cardiometabolic disorders demands a holistic strategy that combines prevention, early diagnosis, lifestyle modification, and multidisciplinary care. He stressed that only an integrated approach can bring meaningful improvements in patient outcomes and quality of life.
While addressing the session as Patron-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ayyaz emphasized that combating cardiometabolic diseases requires building strong connections between clinical expertise, preventive strategies, and patient-centered care. He noted that research, innovation, and multidisciplinary collaboration are the key pillars through which the burden of these diseases can be reduced and a healthier future ensured. He further added that young doctors must be trained in multidisciplinary approaches to deliver safer and more effective care in the future.
Sharing their collective views, the Panel of Experts—comprising Prof. Dr. Muhammad Imran (Head, East Medical Unit, KEMU), Prof. Dr. Imran Hasan Khan (Head, West Medical Unit, KEMU), Prof. Dr. Israr ul Haq (Head, North Medical Unit, KEMU), Prof. Dr. Ahsan Nauman (Chairman & Head, Department of Neurology), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Anees (Chairman & Head, Department of Nephrology), Prof. Dr. Samina Saeed (Head, South Medical Unit, KEMU), and Prof. Dr. Asma Sharif (Associate Professor, Department of Cardiology, KEMU)—noted that cardiometabolic disorders remain among the most pressing health challenges worldwide. They emphasized that a multidisciplinary approach—integrating cardiology, nephrology, neurology, endocrinology, and general medicine—not only ensures accurate diagnosis and effective treatment but also significantly enhances patients’ quality of life. Such academic sessions, they added, not only raise awareness but also contribute to building a truly patient-centered healthcare system.
The academic proceedings also featured lectures by Dr. Somya Iqtadar, Dr. Uzma Malik, and Dr. Samia Shabbir, followed by a rich panel discussion. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session where experts from cardiology, nephrology, neurology, and general medicine provided valuable guidance to young doctors.
