
Certificate in Medical Teaching (CMT) held at King Edward Medical University
The Vice Chancellor of King Edward Medical University (KEMU), Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz, visited the exit examination of the Certificate in Medical Teaching (CMT) programme today, held at the Maqbool Block, KEMU.
This event marked the successful culmination of a six-month faculty development initiative aimed at strengthening teaching competencies in medical education.
A total of 52 experienced doctors from varied clinical and academic backgrounds from all over the country participated in the programme.
During his visit, Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz interacted with the participants and commended their commitment to professional development and educational excellence. He also praised the Department of Medical Education for successfully organizing and executing this structured, competency-based programme.
The exit examination assessed candidates’ applied knowledge, reflective practice, and ability to integrate evidence-based educational strategies within their practice.
The assessments were arranged by Prof. Mustehsan Bashir and conducted by distinguished panel of medical educationist trained from College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and other distinguished academic institutions of the world, including: Prof. Muhammad Moeen Pro VC, KEMU, Prof. Syed Asghar Naqi Registrar KEMU, Prof. Abrar Ashraf, Director Medical Education and Chairperson Dept. of Surgery , KEMU, Prof. Mustehsan Bashir In charge CMT Program and Chairperson Dept of Plastic Surgery, Prof. Ali Madeeh Hashmi, Prof. Uzair Ahmed Qureshi, Prof. Saira Afzal, Prof. Nasir Chaudhry, Prof. Mehr un Nisa, Prof. Uzma Hussain, Prof. Nazish Imran, Dr. Zeeshan Sarwar, Dr. Faiza Abrar , Dr. M Suhail, Dr. Suhail Niazi, Dr. Nasir Hamdani and Dr.Aabish Mehreen.
The panel provided valuable feedback and expert evaluation of the participants’ educational competencies. “ The quality of medical education depends on the quality of its teachers,” remarked worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz. “ Programmes like this ensure that our faculty remain updated with modern teaching methodologies and assessment tools, ultimately benefiting student learning and patient care .”
This was the eighth cohort of CMT participants graduating from the University, with the course having commenced in January 2025.
The Certificate in Medical Teaching comprises three intensive contact sessions and is designed to support mid-career and senior faculty in adopting contemporary, globally aligned practices in medical education.
The successful completion of this batch reinforces KEMU’s commitment to building academic capacity and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in medical education.
