King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Successfully Hosts 2-Day Grant Writing Workshop
King Edward Medical University (KEMU) recently organized its fourth two-day grant writing workshop, gathering distinguished experts and researchers from esteemed institutions, including the Health Research Advisory Board, Health Services Academy, PHC Global, and City St Georges University London.
The workshop was honored by the presence of former Health Minister Professor Javed Akram as the chief guest. Vice Chancellor Professor Mahmood Ayyaz warmly welcomed Professor Akram and expressed his gratitude for his participation.
Professor Ayyaz highlighted the significance of the workshop in strengthening research institutions and fostering a culture of research excellence. He acknowledged the efforts of Dr. Somia Iqtadar, focal person of the Punjab Health Research Advisory Board, in organizing the event and recognized the university’s and government’s continued support for research.
In his address, Professor Akram commended KEMU’s progress under Professor Ayyaz’s leadership and emphasized the importance of research in the early years of MBBS. He stressed the need to promote evidence-based solutions and establish medical research and journalism departments at KEMU. Professor Akram encouraged participants to leverage available research grants and popularize the research culture.
The workshop featured esteemed speakers, including Dr. Zakiuddin Ahmed, Professor Shehzad Ali Khan from the Health Services Academy, Dr. Imran Nisar from the Aga Khan University, Dr. Raheela Ahmad from City St Georges University UK, Dr. Javed Ismail, and Dr. Ali Turab from PHC Global.
Notable attendees included Principal Shalamar Medical College Dr. Zahid Bashir, Professor Shakeel Ahmed, Professor Maher un Nisa, Professor Abbas Khokhar, Professor Noreen Akmal, Professor Faherm Afzal, Professor Abbas Khokar, Professor Saima Chaudhry, and Dr. Shehla Shoukat.
The workshop aimed to enhance research and grant writing skills among participants, aligning with KEMU’s mission to foster a research-oriented environment. By providing a platform for researchers to share experiences and learn from each other, the workshop contributed to advancing research in Pakistan.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Somia Iqtadar. The success of the workshop demonstrated KEMU’s commitment to promoting research excellence and fostering a culture of innovation.
