The inaugural ceremony of the 44th Annual International Scientific Conference took place under the distinguished auspices of King Edward Medical University, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s legacy. The event also witnessed the formal inauguration of the Central Diagnostic Laboratory at KEMU by Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. The guest of honour, Parliamentary Secretary for Health Mrs. Rushda Lodhi, and Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, added further prestige to the gathering.

In his inspiring address, Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique lauded the contributions of KEMCAANA in advancing community health infrastructure and hospital services. Referring to December 16 as a day of dual significance, he expressed deep sorrow over the APS tragedy, describing it as a lasting wound in the nation’s collective consciousness. Addressing the alumni and attendees, he remarked, “You are truly the Kings and Queens of this institution, role models for Pakistan. Uphold the values of higher education, compassion, and tolerance as you serve humanity.” He extended heartfelt appreciation for the relentless efforts of KEMCAANA and KEMCA-UK in elevating the standards of healthcare and education.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz delivered a profound speech, describing December 16 as a day etched in memory for its significance. He emphasised that the alumni of KEMU are the institution’s greatest asset, serving as a source of pride and inspiration. Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz reaffirmed his commitment to establishing KEMU as the premier medical institution in Pakistan, dedicated to achieving excellence in education, research, and innovation. He highlighted key accomplishments under his leadership, including the establishment of the Biobank and the School of Artificial Intelligence, alongside other pioneering projects.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to five exceptional alumni: Dr. Arif Muhammad Muslim, Dr. Shahzad Khan (President KEMCAANA), Dr. Arif Humayun Agha, Dr. Athar Ahmed Saeed, and Prof. Sajid Maqbool. Their outstanding contributions across diverse fields set a remarkable example for the medical fraternity.
Dr. Shahzad Khan, President of KEMCAANA, reflected on the organisation’s unwavering dedication to education, research, and community service. He proudly announced the KEMCAANA Scholarship Program, which aims to make the second year of MBBS tuition-free, building on the first-year success. He expressed deep gratitude to his alma mater and Vice Chancellor Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz for their enduring support.
Parliamentary Secretary for Health Mrs. Rushda Lodhi, speaking on behalf of the Punjab Government, underscored the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, which has prioritised accessible healthcare for all. She expressed confidence in the potential of the younger generation to steer Pakistan towards progress and development.
