King Edward Medical University successfully conducted a three-day Faculty Development Workshop on Assessment from 15th to 17th September 2025.
The event was formally inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, KEMU, who emphasized the central role of assessment in ensuring quality medical education. KEMU has been consistently investing in its faculty through structured training workshops, seminars, and academic retreats. These initiatives aim to enhance teaching skills, improve assessment strategies, and align medical education with global best practices. By building capacity in educational methods, the university ensures that its graduates are competent, compassionate, and prepared to meet modern healthcare challenges
The workshop covered important areas of assessment including types of assessment, domains of learning, Miller’s pyramid, blueprinting and table of specification, construction of MCQs, developing short answer questions with keys, item analysis, assessment of psychomotor skills, standard setting, workplace-based assessment, and evaluation of short and long cases. These interactive sessions allowed participants to gain hands-on experience and practical insight into improving assessment strategies.
The sessions were facilitated by Prof. Syed Asghar Naqi and Dr. M. Zeeshan Sarwar, who shared their expertise and experience in assessment design, psychomotor skills evaluation, workplace-based assessments, and standard setting. Their commitment and engaging style made the workshop highly productive and beneficial for all participants.
